Privacy policy — Casty
Last updated: 12 October 2026 · applies to the Android apps Casty
(ch.jebla.castyphone) and Casty TV (ch.jebla.castytv)

2. The essentials in short
Casty is a pure playback application for the channel lists and playlists that you provide yourself. The app contains no advertising, no user tracking and no analytics or crash-reporting services. We operate no server on which data from the app is stored, and we receive no usage data. Content (channels, films, series) comes exclusively from the provider whose credentials you enter — Casty itself provides no content.
This website (casty.jebla.ch) uses a self-hosted statistics tool (Umami on our own server) to measure reach: no cookies, no storage of IP addresses, no user profiles and no sharing with third parties. The app itself contains no analytics.
3. Data that stays on your device only
- Your provider credentials: server address(es), user name, password. They are
stored in the app's own preferences (
xtream_credentials) in plain text and are only protected by the Android sandbox and your device lock. - Channel lists, favourites, EPG reminders and cached programme guide, poster and logo data.
- Optional: a backup file that you create yourself via “Back up” — you decide where it is stored (the system's file picker).
This data does not leave the device and is deleted when you uninstall the app. Note: Android can back up app data automatically (auto backup, device transfer). The credentials are excluded from that — the app deliberately leaves them out. Favourites and settings are kept; after switching devices you simply enter the credentials once again.
4. Data that leaves the device
The app only talks to servers that are necessary for playback or that you instruct it to use. In every case your IP address is transmitted for technical reasons.
| Recipient | What is transmitted | When |
|---|---|---|
| Your streaming provider (the server address you enter) | Credentials, retrieval of channel/film/series lists and streams | every time you use the app |
The Movie Database (TMDB), USA · api.themoviedb.org,
image.tmdb.org |
film or series title (truncated to 80 characters), release year, language | only if you enable “Load film info and posters” and store your own TMDB key. Without your own key nothing is transmitted. |
| EPG source that you enter yourself (XMLTV URL) | retrieval of the address you stored | only if you provide your own source |
| Image servers | retrieval of the channel logos and film artwork from your channel list (addresses come from your provider or from your playlist) | while displaying channel and film lists |
| YouTube | opening the trailer search or the video | only if you tap a trailer |
| Demo mode (the “Test the app in demo mode” feature) | retrieval of public test streams (including ARD/ZDF/France24/DW/NASA). Channel logos are not loaded in demo mode — the app shows its own placeholder icon there. | only if you start demo mode |
| Google Play | delivery of the app and updates | installation and updates via Google Play |
For the services listed under “Your streaming provider” and “EPG source” you are the customer yourself; their data processing is their responsibility. We have no influence on it and receive no knowledge of it. Note that many providers run their servers over unencrypted HTTP — in that case credentials and stream content are transmitted without transport encryption.
TMDB is a service of TiVo Platform Technologies LLC. Its privacy policy applies (themoviedb.org/privacy-policy).
5. No sharing for advertising or marketing purposes
No data is sold, and no data is passed on for advertising, profiling or marketing purposes. There are no third-party advertising SDKs in the app.
6. Updates
In the version distributed via Google Play, the app's self-update feature is disabled. Updates are obtained exclusively through Google Play.
7. Permissions and their purpose
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Internet, network state | playing streams, loading programme guides and logos, checking connectivity |
| Notifications | reminders for shows from the programme guide |
| Receive boot completed | rescheduling reminders after the device is restarted |
| Foreground service (media playback) | continuing audio in the background if you enable that in the settings |
| Keep device awake | stable playback without interruptions from power saving |
The app requests no location, no contacts, no camera, no microphone and no access to your files.
This applies to both apps: Casty TV likewise asks for no location, no contacts, no camera, no microphone and no file access. Which of the permissions above a version requests depends on the features it has — the TV interface needs fewer of them than the phone app.
8. Children
Casty is a technical playback application and is not aimed at children. Which content can be accessed is determined solely by the provider whose credentials you enter.
9. Your rights
Since we receive no personal data from the app ourselves, we also hold no data about you that we could disclose, correct or delete. You can remove all locally stored data yourself at any time: reset the app's settings or uninstall the app. For information about data processed by your streaming provider, TMDB or Google, please contact those parties directly.
10. Changes
We update this policy when the app changes. The version published here applies. Last updated: 30 September 2026.
