IPTV player for Android

Your channels.
Your playlist.
One player.

Casty plays the channel list from your own provider: live TV with a programme guide, movies and series, reminders for upcoming shows and audio that keeps playing in the background. No ads, no account, no tracking.

What Casty does

Everything a player for your own channel lists needs — and nothing that spies on you.

Live TV with a guide

Your provider's channel list plus EPG from one or more sources — with channel logos, the running show and its progress.

Movies & series

The video sections of your provider with covers, descriptions and a season view — cover images come from your provider.

Reminders

A notification just before a show starts — even after the device was restarted.

Timeshift & catch-up

Watch shows you missed, whenever your provider supports time shifting.

Background audio

Keep listening with the screen off — opt-in, never the default.

Multiple addresses

If your provider runs several servers, Casty switches to the next one automatically instead of leaving you with an error.

Casty for Android TV and Google TV

Casty also comes for the TV: a separate version with the same channel list, the same programme guide and the same movies and series — operated with the remote control.

Example view with invented channel names

  • Built for the remote: D-pad, OK and Back instead of tapping — large buttons with a clear focus ring.
  • Picture-in-picture: leaving the app keeps the channel running in a small window, with fullscreen and stop buttons inside (on devices that support it).
  • Programme guide in a grid: several channels at once — six rows fit on screen.
  • Same access, same settings: live TV, movies and series from your provider — Casty TV is a separate app (ch.jebla.castytv) and runs on TVs and TV boxes, not on the phone.

The Google Play listing for Android TV is in preparation. Until then, send a short e-mail to [email protected] and you will get the download link — we do not hand the file out publicly. The app needs no account.

How to get Casty onto the TV

  1. 1

    Request the APK

A short e-mail to [email protected] — you get the download link. There is no Google Play listing for Android TV yet.

  2. 2

Allow file downloads on the TV

Install a file-download app (for example “Downloader”) or a file manager on the TV and allow unknown sources for it.

  3. 3

    Install and start

Casty then shows up in the TV's app list. To update, request the link again and install over it.

Important: Casty contains no content

Casty is a playback app and nothing else. It ships no channels, movies or series and does not provide any. You need your own access (a subscription, a playlist or an M3U file) from a provider of your choice, and it is your responsibility to make sure you are allowed to use those contents legally.

Demo mode: try it without credentials

You do not need a subscription or login details to look at Casty. Demo mode starts with a single tap and shows the whole interface: live list, programme guide, player and library. No account, no typing, nothing you have to undo afterwards.

  1. 1

    Open Casty

On the first start you see the sign-in screen. Credentials are only needed if you want to connect your own provider.

  2. 2

Tap “Test the app in demo mode”

The button sits right below “Connect” on the sign-in screen. One tap and the example list is loaded.

  3. 3

    Click around

Everything is fully usable — just like after connecting your provider, only with example channels instead of your list.

What you can try in there

Included in demo mode

  • Live list with around 16 example channels in three groups
  • Programme guide with invented shows, progress and “on now”
  • Playback with zapping, full screen and an on-screen control bar
  • Library with free films and a series view
  • Set reminders for shows
  • Look at the settings and the interface design

Deliberately not included

  • No real channels and no third-party channel names — every name is invented
  • No channel logos and no images from third parties
  • No credentials, no account, no sign-up
  • No substitute for a subscription: it unlocks nothing
  • No test of your provider — that needs its list and your access
  • No timeshift or catch-up — only your provider's streams can do that

Copyright in demo mode

Every channel name and show title in demo mode is invented, and no channel logos are shown there. For playback Casty uses only freely receivable test streams and free films by the Blender Foundation under a Creative Commons licence (CC BY) — the attribution is part of each title. There are no protected films, series or broadcaster recordings in there; Casty stores and hosts no content.

Leaving demo mode and setting up your own access

Settings → Account → section “✨ Demo mode active” → “Set up your own server / provider”. Then enter the server address, user name and password from your provider — as described below under In three steps. Your settings and reminders from demo mode are kept.

In three steps

  1. 1

    Get access

Server address, user name and password come from your provider.

  2. 2

    Enter it in Casty

Typed in once — the credentials stay on your device.

  3. 3

    Start watching

The channel list or playlist is loaded, together with the programme guide. Done.

Frequently asked questions

Can I try Casty without my own access?

Yes. On the sign-in screen tap “Test the app in demo mode” — no server address, user name or password. Details are in the demo mode guide.

Does demo mode show real channels?

No. All channel names and show titles are invented, and there are no channel logos. Playback uses freely receivable test streams and free films by the Blender Foundation (CC BY). Demo mode shows you the interface — it provides no content and is no substitute for access to your own provider.

Does Casty cost anything?

In Google Play Casty costs a one-time CHF 3.00 (the price may differ per country) — with no ads, no subscription and no in-app purchases. Whatever you pay for content is between you and your provider.

Where do channel logos and film artwork come from?

From your provider: the channel list includes the logos, film and series covers come from its video data. Those logos belong to the respective broadcasters — Casty only displays them because they are part of your list. Missing film artwork can optionally be filled in — for that you store your own TMDB key in the settings.

What happens to my data?

In the app, nothing leaves your device except the requests to the provider you enter yourself: no advertising or analytics services, no account, no servers of ours. For this website we only count visits with a self-hosted statistics tool (no cookies, no IP storage, no user profiles). Details in the privacy policy.

Which devices does Casty run on?

Android phones and tablets as well as Android TV and Google TV. The TV version is a separate app (details in the Android TV section) and runs on TVs and TV boxes only.

How do I get Casty onto my TV?

Send a short e-mail to [email protected] and you will get the download link for the TV version; the steps are in the Android TV section. A Google Play listing for Android TV is still in preparation — once it is public you install from there and uninstall the download version once (the Play version is signed by Google).
